Trump Says US–Iran Agreement Can Survive Ongoing Israel-Lebanon Conflict
Both the United States and Iran have signed a “performance-based” accord which could see sanctions against Iranian oil exports lifted immediately, leading to a fall in international Brent crude oil to $78 per barrel. This agreement requires Iran to meet several tough demands before any lifting of sanctions; the demands include dilution of the highly enriched uranium, renunciation of any efforts toward acquiring a nuclear weapon, and guaranteeing safe passage of maritime vessels. At the same time, the chief Iranian negotiator called for the total withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, stating that the two cannot be separated within the framework of any agreement. Yet according to U.S. President Donald Trump, he feels that the agreement between the United States and Iran will withstand Israel's continued military action in Lebanon despite ongoing rocket attacks on both sides of the Lebanese border.
